Effie Yeah Nature Center - Outside Exhibit Hall with Rainbow

A natural wildlife oasis in an urban area, the Nature Center is set among 100 acres of oak woodland along the American River Parkway in Carmichael, California. Here visitors learn about our region’s natural history plus the importance of conserving and protecting our most precious natural resources. Over the last 40 years the Center has provided programs and quiet respite from urban life to more than 1.6 million visitors.

As our community has grown and evolved, so has the Center.

  • Once open only for weekend visitors, we now provide hundreds of programs each year to classes of school children every weekday, many free of charge through grants and donations, as well as evening programs for adults.
  • Once staffed by an occasional part-time ranger, we now have 15 professional staff including environmental interpreters, and over 250 active volunteers.
  • The number of people served each year by the Nature Center has more than quadrupled since its first years of operation, now at over 90,000 annually.
  • Most proudly, we have become a multi-generational resource, as visitors who came here as children are now returning with their own children, sharing their appreciation of the peace and beauty of this natural oasis.

We invite you and your family to visit the Nature Center to explore, discover and learn about the amazing natural and cultural history of our region.
