The oak-shaded grounds of the Nature Center offer a beautiful setting for the special events we host annually. Some events are fundraisers, helping us to fund programs and pay for animal care; others are simply an opportunity to educate and inspire our community. Whatever the event, we enjoy the chance to welcome our many supporters and friends.
Held in mid-March, Bird and Breakfast is a special weekend of morning birding trips coupled with wonderful breakfast fare. This event starts with bird walks guided by some of our best local birders. For weeks in advance of the walks, these guides scout the Nature Study Area so they will be able to point out nests and local rarities. After the walk, attendees enjoy wonderful food, good coffee and silent auction items to help raise money for the Effie Yeaw Nature Center. No extensive birding experience is necessary - this event caters to all levels.
This elegant event, presented in late-spring by ARNHA and the Sacramento Fine Arts Center, features an art show, dinner, live music and silent and live auctions. The Gala brings together art patrons, philanthropists, artists and nature-lovers for what has become the most important fundraiser of the year for the Effie Yeaw Nature Center. The art show, featuring creative interpretations of local nature in a variety of media, is juried by well-known local artists.
Our largest family event of the year, NatureFest promotes science & nature education and is an excellent opportunity to learn more about local organizations that support our community. The event includes live animal shows, kids activities, demonstrations, guided nature hikes, and family-friendly food. Enjoy animal shows on the main stage and close up visits with the Nature Center's own ambassador animals at Critter Corner, plus many more creatures of all shapes and sizes! NatureFest is held annually in October.
The first Saturday of December our Discovery Shop is transformed into a holiday gift wonderland! This festive annual sale features an expanded inventory of unique books, garden décor, science kits, toys, clothing and more. We invite several local guest artisans to sell their unique, handmade goods. Complimentary hot cider and cookies welcome guests out of the cold and into the holiday season!
