Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, Jo-Ellen Darcy, and U.S. Rep. Doris Matsui joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District for an America’s Great Outdoors initiative event at Effie Yeaw Nature Center in Sacramento, Calif., Sept. 27. 2011. Corps park rangers led students on nature hikes and outdoor education activities to help connect them with the outdoors. President Barack Obama unveiled the initiative in April 2010 to re-connect Americans with the outdoors, improve stewardship of our shared natural heritage and inspire the next generation of conservation leaders.
