2023 Nature & Forest Therapy Walks
With Jane McCluskey
The forest provides more than we typically perceive. Have you caught yourself daydream as you look out a window? Caught yourself laughing with baby animal videos? Drawing from old traditions and relatively new findings, nature and forest therapy walks are brief immersions into something you create with Nature.
What is it?
We will be making a slow journey through an area populated by natural life. While I can guide you, I cannot tell you what you will experience. Sometimes we walk very slowly, sometimes we stand in place, sometimes we sit, sometimes something else.
What is it Not?
Forest therapy is not a hike aiming for some exercise. It is not teaching about the fauna we meet. Nor is it guided meditation. And yet, perhaps some aspects of the time we share might include our bodies breathing, our awareness growing, and our minds quieting.
Nature and forest therapy is an opportunity to enjoin differently than using explanation or understanding. As this is a quiet, slow walk by some standards, you may have many questions about the life we encounter. After our walk, the naturalists who steward this park are available and always happy to answer questions and speak with you about the animals and plants who live here.
About the guide:
Jane McCluskey is a certified Nature & Forest Therapy Guide. Her background includes training in facilitation and mediation, as well as a master’s degree in conflict analysis and resolution, and is certified in classical feng shui. She has traveled to many places around the world, and seems to have always found herself in a forest. Growing up with naturalist parents and plant friends, she is at home among all beings outdoors. She looks forward to guiding people to a place they may want to return.
