Our Summer Camps are listed below by age range: 5 year-olds, 6-7 year-olds, 8-11 year-olds and 12-15 year-olds.

Camps are either one week or two weeks long. Descriptions, dates, times and fees are listed under each weekly camp title. Please refer to the right column for info on how to register.

Camp 5

July 24, 2017

Times:9am to 12 noon

July 24-28 - Five comes alive with this week-long camp at Effie Yeaw! Your child will spend the week learning about five wonderful basics of nature – animals, plants, water, Earth, and sky. How are they all connected and how do we fit in? Hiking, arts and crafts, music, and games are all part of learning about science and nature while having fun!

Summer Camps for Ages 6 - 7

Junior Geologists

June 19, 2017

Times:9am to 12 noon

June 19-23 - Calling all rock hounds! Become a rock detective and explore rocks, minerals, crystals, geodes, fossils and more. Learn how the American River was formed and the story of the river rocks. Craft some rock inspired art, sort soil, try your hand at gold panning and create your own fossil cast!  

NOTE: This camp includes at least one off-site camp day where children will need to be dropped off and picked up at a different location.

Wild Wonders

June 26, 2017

Times:9am to 12 noon

June 26-30 - It’s a wild world out there, full of discoveries waiting to happen! Each day we’ll search for creatures large and small, scaly and slimy, sneaky or loud! We’ll explore the plants that are soft and learn the hazards of those that are thorny or poisonous. Join us in adventure and guided inquiry as we connect to the magic of the American River Parkway. 

NOTE: This camp includes an evening program and at least one off-site trip where children will need to be dropped off and picked up in different locations.

Bugs Bonanza!

Times:9am to 12pm

July 5-7 - Insects are the most abundant animals on earth! Join us in this three-day camp to seek and identify various fliers, hoppers, swimmers and crawlers found along and in the American River. Discover amazing insect structures and beauty, and find out why insects are important to their habitat and to humans. Each day brings a new featured creature, hands-on activities, hikes, explorations and more! 

NOTE: This camp includes an off-site water program on at least one day where children will need to be dropped off and picked up at a different location.

Coyote Kids

July 10, 2017

Times:9am to 12 noon

July 10-14 - Can you howl like a coyote or walk like a fox? Get into your true animal form as you play games to expand your senses and explore how animals move. Find clues and follow trails to figure out what animals are up to when we’re not around. This camp is sure to be a howling good time! 

NOTE: This camp includes an evening program and at least one off-site trip where children will need to be dropped off and picked up in different locations.

City Critters

July 17, 2017

Times:9am to 12 noon

July 17-21 - Who is living in your backyard? Birds, insects, mammals, reptiles and amphibians may call your yard or garden “home.” Learn how to create a friendly place for wildlife at home, hunt for clues and see some of these wildlife neighbors up close!

Nature's Hidden Treasures

July 24, 2017

Times:9am to 12pm

July 24-28 - Unlock nature’s hidden treasures in this camp that focuses on nature connections and biological diversity. Campers will hike and explore the wild spaces of Ancil Hoffman Park while learning basic animal tracking methods, native plants, how to interpret bird conversations, primitive skills, and how to protect and conserve American River water. Lace up those hiking boots and come explore the hidden gems of Ancil Hoffman Park!

Note: Daily pick up and drop off for this camp will be at the “Duck Pond parking lot" (back end of preserve) in Ancil Hoffman Park.

Summer Camps for Ages 8 - 11

Wild River

June 19-23 - Prepare yourself for a week of amphibious investigations! Plunge your hands under the river’s surface as you quest for crayfish, have a watershed moment as you’re doused during water games, and meet new friends all while exploring the wilds of the American River Parkway!

Wildly Creative

June 26, 2017

Times:9am to 12pm

June 26-30 - Let your imagination run wild as we get crafty with natural items and create a realistic paper bird model. Take your creativity to the extreme by using rocks, mud, sticks and leaves to design nature-inspired artwork and reflect on your outdoor observations through nature-journaling activities. Join this camp to claim your seat in Mother Nature's art room!

Nature's Red, White and Blue!

July 05, 2017

Times:9am to 12pm

July 5-7 - This three-day, All-Star camp for independent campers will take a close look at where these famous colors are found here in nature and discover the science of color. Each day we will focus on one color - you can even wear the theme of the day! We will discover local plants and animals, spend time on the trails, hear stories and get our hands into arts & crafts, including tie dye art.

Outdoor Adventures (Two-week camp)
